A Ballad Singer honest for himself, Jin-ho Kim
I’ve tried many areas of music, and found myself I am good with sad ballad genre. When I sing sad ballad songs, I can be honest for myself. For later on, I will only focus on ballad genre. There is no special source of my inspiration, but I believe experiences are the best resource for composing songs. Those really helped me a lot.
Q. Hello! Please introduce yourself briefly.
Hello, I am Jin-ho a singer living in Korea. I mainly sing ballad songs.
Q. What influenced you to start music?
As I remember based on my previous memory, I liked to sing from young ages. I guess I was maybe around 6 years old. I used to sing [Affection] of Su-hee Kim at the back of the curtain in my house. I think I liked to sing since then. In later days, I was deeply into H.O.T’s music although singing 5 members’ parts almost took my breath away. I loved Kang-Ta the most; he released solo album called [Polaris] in 2002. There also are a lot of musicians and music I like as I get older.
Q. Were there any artists those influenced you the most?
Absolutely there was! I was heavily influenced by Hwee-sung. He’s debut was in 2002, and I recognized him in the year of 2003. When I firstly listened his song [With Me], I was strongly attracted to it; because that genre was hardly not found in Korea. After I know of him, I went karaoke so many times to practice his songs. That was the very beginning moment I start to think myself to sing in professional attitude.
Q. When did you start your music career?
People recognized my name from the TV show called ‘Hidden Singer’; it aims to impersonate famous singers by mimic their way of singing. I made my appearance in Hwee-sung’s episode without expecting any fortunes. It was just to see my role model Hwee-sung, but I fortunately win in the show. After the show, I was recognized by the public, and there were some fans gathered up. I started my music career since then.
Q. Do you have any music color you seek for?
I’ve tried many areas of music, and found myself that I am good with sad ballad genre. When I sing sad ballad, I can be honest for myself. I will only focus on this music genre for later.
Q. How do you write the song? Is there any special places or objects?
I am not skilled enough to write my own song, so I get a lot of help from surrounding. I am planning to release a ballad song with the help of the producer that I know of. There is no special source of my inspiration, but I believe experiences are the best resource for composing songs. Those really helped me a lot.
Q. Do you have any memorable moment or concert?
It’s probably the first concert I had. After ‘Hidden Singer’, all the participants gathered for the benefit performance. All tickets were sold out very quickly, and everyone enjoyed singing in the concert. I am happy whenever I remember the joyful moment we had on the stage.
Q. Do you have your own playlist, and any suggesting songs?
Recently, I am listening to the songs I used to listen back in days. I love [Gravity] of Sara bareilles, and listens to it a lot. I love [Nervous] of Gavin James in these days. There is power in the stillness of the song. I recommend you to listen!
Q. Do you have goal of dream as an artist?
When I become ‘certified’ artist, I want to be in the lineup of the festival. That’s my current goal right now.
Q. What is your future plan?
I introduced myself as a singer here, but actually right now I have another job to make a good environment for music career. I can’t put my whole time and effort in music like before, but I am planning to work on the music whenever I have spare time on weekends. I will release album in the winter so I will be busy soon.
