Q. Greetings! Can you please introduce Sons of Polaris and tell us more about what kind of music do you play?
Hello everyone! We are Sons Of Polaris, and are a recording project located in Phoenix Arizona. We play Progressive Hard Rock/ Metal. Gavin Campbell on vocals, Alexis Hernandez on guitars, James Cabeke on bass and Gilberto Finol on drums.
Q. Why did you choose to name your recording project “Sons of Polaris”?
The name came from the song Polaris by Megadeth. It’s symbolic of those that would survive nuclear annihilation, the offspring of a Polaris missile.
Q. When and how did your musical journey start?
James- I joined the band in 2015, and after meeting with Alexis began recording Hypnotized Vol.3. I was inspired by the direction the project's originality and professional level of recording as I had listened to the previous releases. Before this I had been living in Texas, and playing Bass locally with metal acts in the area which I lived.
Q. Are there any artists that inspired you to become a musician or had a huge influence on you?
Our influences range from bands like Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Megadeth, King Crimson and other classic metal/ rock to even more traditional Latin, funk, blues, jazz, and even classical music. Each member brings their own flavor of influence to the final product.
Q. What was the happiest and toughest moment of your musical career so far?
I believe we can all agree the happiest moment so far would be when we finished mixing, and mastering Hypnotized Vol.3. Sonically it turned out very well, and we we're all happy with our performances. The toughest moment would probably be grinding out this record while maintaining our jobs, our family life, and keeping the direction for the album consistent with all the business in our lives outside of Sons Of Polaris. Me and Alexis work as musical Instructors, and Gavin our singer works several jobs so it can be a very busy lifestyle.
Q. What message are you trying to send to the public with your music?
J- For me the message is clear, to create excellent records that don't compromise, that don't follow the current recording trends in hard rock/ Metal, and to stand on alone as a unique blend of uncompromising Metal/ Rock at the highest caliber.
Q. These days, you have been working on a brand new LP. Can you tell us something more about the project and what to expect from it?
The new record will be our first full length record. We have enlisted the drumming might of a good friend of Alexis', Gilberto Finol, to deliver excellent drumming, and bring a new flair of passion to the rhythm section. We have around 8-9 new songs that will debut on the new record as well. What you can expect from this new record is a focused Sons Of Polaris performing, recording, and writing on all cylinders. We have streamlined the recording process down to a very precise system, and will be delivering results with it very shortly. Personally these are my favorite tracks we have ever worked on, and I'm very excited for everyone to hear them, as well as support the album post release. Expect a range of songs dealing with many real world topics, epic progressive pieces, as well as shorter pieces with hooks to keep you coming back for more!
Q. How does this new album differ from your previous works?
The new album will be the first L.P in our discography. It will also be the first record to feature Gilberto Finol on drums. Like I said before we will be implementing a very focused recording style, and have streamlined a lot of the hassles that make recording challenging, and time consuming. Overall this will be a very focused piece, with each member delivering there style, and strengths at full capacity. I feel if you stick around to listen to this L.P after hearing Hypnotized Vol.3, you're in for a treat.
Q. What does the future hold for “Sons of Polaris”?
The future is an open canvas. We will continue to record new records, support our previous releases, and when the time is right begin to perform the material live. The sky is the limit.
